Offices Open for Obama Transition Team
U.S. General Services Administration is providing space
The Obama transition team on Wednesday was given the keys to its government offices.
Under the Presidential Transition Act of 1963, the U.S. General Services Administration is responsible for providing a new administration with office space, information technology, furniture, equipment, and logistical support.
GSA Acting Administrator James A. Williams is authorized to release federal funds for the day-to-day support of transition activities. "This is an historic moment for our nation and for GSA," GSA Presidential Transition Director Gail Lovelace said. "Our team has worked more than two years to complete this headquarters and help facilitate the orderly transfer of executive power."
The 2008 Presidential Transition Headquarters, located in downtown Washington, provides approximately 120,000 square feet of fully furnished and computer-equipped office space.
